• RewirEdX – a two-day virtual conference taking place 15 – 16 December 2020 to rethink education and the new reality that follows a post-COVID-19 world
• More than 40 education leaders and practitioners including Ministers from around the world will participate in the conference
• RewirEdX is one of the initiatives under RewirEd, a global education platform formally launched at the 75th UN General Assembly in 2020

United Arab Emirates, Dubai, December 8, 2020: As the world looks to recover from the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, education leaders and practitioners from around the world will gather virtually on 15 – 16 December 2020 for RewirEdX, a virtual international conference on education. RewirEdX is a collaboration between Dubai Cares and Expo 2020 Dubai, in close coordination with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC).

RewirEdX will feature Ministers of Education, high profile speakers and panelists from U.N agencies, international NGOs, academia, as well as representatives from the public and private sector from around the world. Global education leaders and featured speakers will come together to reflect on lessons learnt this year and emphasis on the new reality that follows a post-COVID-19 world for education and learning.

Speaking in advance of the 2-day virtual conference Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares: “The COVID-19 pandemic has had profound impact on education by closing schools almost everywhere, causing the largest simultaneous shock to all education systems in our lifetimes. While the world is going through a large scale disruption globally, the discussion around education needs to be reshaped and redefined more than ever before. We hope that RewirEdX will be the starting point for long-term engagement and collaboration on new ways forward, as well as acting as a 1-year countdown to the RewirEd Summit, taking place in person at Expo 2020 Dubai from 12-14 December next year.”

Sessions at RewirEdX will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on education around the world, revisiting assumptions about remote learning and school closures, the urgency of connectivity as well as education perspectives for 2021.

RewirEdX is one of several initiatives launched by RewirEd, a global education platform formally launched at the 75th UN General Assembly in September 2020. This platform aims to be a catalyst in redefining education to ensure a future that is prosperous, sustainable, innovative and accessible to all.

This year’s virtual conference is a precursor to the December 2021 RewirEd Summit that will take place at the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC), co-located at the Expo 2020 Dubai site in Dubai.
