RewirEd Platform
The RewirEd Platform, a collaborative effort between Dubai Cares and Expo 2020 Dubai, in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) and global stakeholders, was officially launched on the sidelines of the 75th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The primary goal of the Platform is to reclaim the pivotal role of education in achieving the Global Goals for a prosperous and sustainable future. By fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders and leveraging existing partnerships, the Platform seeks to unlock innovative solutions for the future of education.
Through its inclusive approach, the RewirEd Platform seeks to amplify diverse voices to drive progress in education policy and practice, ensuring more responsive, adaptable, and resilient education systems. RewirEd Platform is enabled by three key dynamic initiatives, including the RewirEd Summit, which convenes global leaders and stakeholders to discuss the future of education; RewirEd Advocacy to champion education transformation through policy and system change globally, as well as RewirEdX, a virtual conference to further catalyze a global conversation on education among stakeholders and experts in the field.
Win-Win Solutions at the Nexus
Recognizing that the challenges of climate change and global crises cannot be tackled in isolation, the report outlines five "win-win" solutions that span Early Childhood Development (ECD), planet-friendly school meals, teaching as a green profession, youth green skills development, and strategic private sector engagement. These solutions highlight the power of cross-sectoral collaboration, showing how aligning education transformation with climate action, economic growth, and social progress can create resilient societies. Strategic investment in these areas has the potential to drive transformative change, accelerating progress in education, climate action, and broader development objectives.
Recommendations
The climate-education nexus presents a powerful opportunity for transformative, mutually beneficial action for both people and the planet. To fully realize its potential, systemic change is needed at both international and national levels to align education transformation with climate goals. To achieve these win-win outcomes, we must break down traditional silos and embrace the interconnectedness of sectors. The report provides clear policy, financing, and research recommendations designed to create an enabling environment for the action in the climate-education nexus to be successful. With concerted efforts across sectors, education can serve as a powerful tool for climate adaptation and sustainability, driving long-term progress for both people and the planet.
RewirEd Summit is Dubai Cares’ flagship platform advocating for transformed education systems as the core enabler for a sustainable future for people and planet. Drawing from Dubai Cares’ 16 years of global experience in enabling access to quality education for children and youth through impactful interventions, RewirEd Summit was established in response to the urgent need to transform educational systems, which have largely remained unchanged since the 1st industrial revolution. It was also born out of a recognition that the education crisis cannot be solved by education actors alone but requires new and unlikely allies – from teachers and principals to ministers and the private sector and children and youth themselves – to identify solutions at the intersection of education and other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Today, RewirEd Summit has established its position as a leading voice and catalyst for inclusive, collective, and proactive action on global education transformation.
RewirEd Advocacy is a mechanism designed to champion education transformation as a key driver for global progress, aiming to catalyze change through bold policy and system reforms. It advocates for a comprehensive rewiring of education systems to equip children and young people with the values, knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to thrive in the future economy and society. These advocacy efforts seek to foster cross-sectoral collaboration and inclusive engagement from policymakers, educators, civil society, youth, the private sector, and marginalized communities to reshape education systems that are resilient, equitable, and responsive to global challenges. By positioning education as a pivotal mechanism for change, RewirEd Advocacy aims to influence policy frameworks, mobilize resources, and secure long-term commitments that ensure education is central to addressing both current and future societal needs.
RewirEdX was a dynamic virtual conference designed to bring together global education stakeholders for action-oriented dialogue and debate. The conference provided a crucial platform for participants to exchange insights, explore innovative solutions, and address pressing challenges in education, particularly those that emerged in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. By facilitating discussions around learnings, obstacles, and opportunities, RewirEdX aimed to drive collective action and inspire impactful change, emphasizing the need for resilience and adaptability in education systems globally.
