Youth, Skills & the Future of Work
Economic growth has long influenced the nature of our education systems. It has encouraged a focus on students acquiring the knowledge and developing the intellectual skills needed to nurture a productive workforce. Schools, universities and learning institutions have functioned as reactionary entities to fuel the relentless economic growth so far.
Now, with urgent and unprecedented economic disruptions, education needs to be at the very forefront of societal progress, far beyond the dictates of economic growth. Education needs to be about empowering young people to thrive in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment.
The RewirEd Summit 2021 was an opportunity to highlight the critical role of partnerships, including private/public sector, innovative partnerships for social impact, as well as the contribution of young people themselves in driving skilling opportunities and ultimately rebuilding economies and societies.

In order to ensure that youth voices were at the forefront of the RewirEd Summit, Restless Development conducted a youth-led research project to examine the following areas: 1) Pathways to Learning and Livelihoods, 2) Young People’s Aspirations and 3) Active Youth Citizenship.
The research uniquely captured the global perspective directly by young people, from young people through an innovative youth-led methodology.
including the youth in the decision making and supporting them through all the processes is the great solution to solve the world’s biggest challenges. The training was amazing, it was a great time for us to connect and exchange as young people and get ready to influence at the summit.

What was supposed to be a 5-minute conversation in the speaker’s room to get to know each other before stepping onto the stage turned into an hour-long private conversation with HE. Dr. Dipu Moni, Bangladesh Minister of Education. We exchanged contacts and mentorship as we discussed ways on propelling the education system. She requested a picture and handed me a book signed by her as a token of our new friendship.
